Complete Food Guide to Anchorage, Alaska

Exploring a new city can be hard, especially when all you want to do is find a good place to grab some bites to eat after a long day of adventuring. After living in Anchorage for over a year, we've rounded up the best eats in the city! We've also included some places that come highly recommend, but are overrated in our opinion (think really long wait and food that is so-so).

Breakfast Spots in Anchorage

• Sami's City Diner - A cute, retro diner in the middle of Anchorage with all the classics - they have great banana pancakes!
• South AK - Think a fun brunch atmosphere with great mimosas! They tend to have a long wait, so we recommend getting your name on the wait list as early as possible or reserving in advance.
• Market Juice - Our favorite "healthy" option. They have fresh pressed juices, avocado toasts, and smoothies! (Closed on Sundays.)
• Pure & Pressed Juice Company - We love their smoothie bowls BUT if you're on the go we recommend stopping somewhere else, in the past we've had to wait over an hour for 4 smoothie bowls.
• ​Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop - I always say they have the best chocolate chip cookies in the world! Plus, they pride themselves in using local and organic ingredients whenever possible.

Overrated Breakfast Spots

• ​Snow City Diner - this spot comes very highly recommended, and always has a line out the door and long wait list - but honestly not our favorite food. We've been a few times and their dishes always seems to come out very plain and bland.

Lunch & Dinner Spots

• Rustic Goat - One of the more popular places in town - try to get in a little before the dinner crowd otherwise it could be a long wait. Our favorite dishes are the Rustic Goat Nachos and the Drunken Clams and Sausage!
• Serranos Mexican Grill - A local spot that reminds us of Tulum (in Alaska?!). Great modern Mexican cuisine.
• Hearth Pizza - Wood fired pizza & drinks!
• Jinmi Korean Restaurant - My favorite Korean restaurant (who knew there were so many in Anchorage?!). Our go-to dishes are the Bibimbap and Grilled Mackerel.
• Wee Bs - They don't have a link but I guarantee this is the best burger you'll ever have. Their portions are huge on fries so we recommend sharing, and they have great chocolate shakes too!
• Middle Way Cafe - Almost like a Panera bread they have soups and sandwiches, all with organic and locally sourced ingredients.

Overrated Lunch/Dinner Spots

• Moose's Tooth - I will admit they have a great Turkey sandwich around Thanksgiving, but other than that you'll just be waiting 2 hours for mediocre pizza. If you really want to visit, we recommend going to their sister restaurant Bear's Tooth - which has great sandwiches!

Breweries and Places to Have a Drink

• 49th State Brewery - Located downtown and also a great place for food, however the wait is normally 1-2 hours for a table. They have a great rooftop!
• Anchorage Brewing Company - They don't always have food options, but sometimes Familia AK will be open inside. They also have a great outdoor seating selection and a rooftop!
• King Street Brewing - Located right next to Anchorage Brewing Company, they have Tyler's favorite IPA!
• Tent City Taphouse - A small busy spot located downtown, they have a fun mimosa flight and although we've never eaten here, their modern gastro pub food looks great as well!
• Anchorage Cider House - A smaller downtown favorite of mine - they have great ciders! Also jointly housed with Fat Ptarmigan, a wood fired pizza house.
• Williwaw Social - Located above Alaskan Soda Jerk, this speakeasy has an amazing rooftop!

Coffee & Desserts

• Kaladi Brothers - A staple. If you know you know.
• Black Cup - A local cafe with breakfast options like a reindeer sausage burrito.
• Tasty Freeze - Maybe the only Tasty Freeze left? Also, you have to try their mac and cheese bites!
• Alaska Soft Serve Company - This soft serve food truck changes locations pretty often, but you can find their entire schedule on their website!
• Crepes De Paris - This food truck has the best sweet and savory crepes you'll ever have. Check their website for location.
• Wild Scoops - Handcrafted Alaskan ice cream. Need we say more?
