Our Essential Travel Resources :
There are a lot of travel companies out there, but some are better than others. These are our favorite websites and resources to help you plan an incredible trip. For flights, we recommend using WayAway or Hopper to compare the cheapest dates to travel to your destination. Car rentals comparisons are best through Discover Cars - just make sure to bring your international driver's permit with you if you're heading somewhere international! We always use AGODA for hotels. They have an easy-to-use platform where you can compare the best rates. To keep cell phone service if you're traveling internationally, we always use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required). For fun things to do, we always recommend Viator to find the best tours in the area, otherwise Klook also does the trick, especially for tours in Asia. Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use for travel insurance. Lastly, my packing list for your international or domestic travels. Where is Morris, Minnesota?
Morris is located in West Central Minnesota, in Stevens County, and has a population of about 5,000. Surrounded by farmland and farm animals, this small town is most well known for having a University of Minnesota Campus. To be quite honest it can be hard to find things to do in this little town, but we've done our best to gather our 9 favorite things to do, listed below! Not to fret, if you don't feel like any of these, there are plenty of other nearby small towns to explore!
Our 9 Favorite to Do in Morris, MN
1. Head to the Park
With many local parks both in town and just outside of town, you can easily spend the day (or days) at a local park! We recommend going camping at Pomme de Terre City Park to spend some time at their picnic shelters and small water park/playground, or try your hand at disc golf. It's also located right next to the lake if you're looking to do some kayaking or paddle boarding. Head to Kjenstad Park, Green River Park, or Eastside Park in town for a picnic or just to relax!
2. Explore the University of Minnesota Campus
I'll be the first to admit this isn't the most exciting thing to do in Morris, however, being one of the things Morris is best known for, we felt like we needed to include it in our list. Although the campus itself was first started as an American Indian Boarding School, it was closed in 1909 and transferred over to the University of Minnesota. One stipulation? American Indian students would be admitted free of charge, a policy that is still followed. You can easily drive around and see some of the ball fields, or take a class in the rec center!
3. Stevens County Historical Society Museum
With rotating exhibits and local walking tours, the Stevens County Historical Society works hard to collect and preserve the history of Stevens County. They have different membership options available, and are open from Tuesday to Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM with a $5 entry fee for adults.
4. Check out Local Events
Although the town of Morris itself is quite small, there are a number of annual events worth checking out such as the Annual Circle of Nations Indigenous Association Powwow and the Stevens County Fair. If you're looking for more things to do, we recommend checking with the Morris Public Library and University of Minnesota, Morris.
5. Explore Main Street Morris
With plenty of small shops, the Midway Mall, and small cafes, you can easily spend a day here walking around to shop and explore. Some of our favorite shops include Inherit Clothing Company, the local Art Gallery, and Morris Nutrition.
6. Explore the Local Cuisine
Surprisingly, there are quite a few dining options in the town of Morris. My personal favorites are Pizza Ranch (ask for their BLT pizza!), the Old No. 1 Bar & Grill, and Homestead - which has a small but delicious cafe inside. There's also a new steakhouse in town, conveniently called Prime Steakhouse, that we will 100% be trying next time we're in town!
7. I Scream for Ice Cream? ;)
This might sound silly, but the best ice cream in town is at the local hardware store. Seriously. As soon as you walk into the Town & Country True Value you'll see their small ice cream stand - my favorite flavor is their lemon berry!
8. Visit the Morris Theater
Showcasing main stream movies since the 1940's, the Morris Theater is actually available to rent (just the second screen, for $125) and features movies every day of the week typically at 7pm and 9pm with matinees on Sundays. The main theater does not require advance ticketing, and holds about 300 people for a single showing. An adult ticket costs $7.50.
9. Head out of Town
Although this sounds a little silly when you're looking for things to do in Morris, sometimes you also want to get out to explore. Lucky for you, Morris is surrounded by many small towns, and you have nearly endless options to go explore the surrounding areas like Chokio-Alberta, Herman-Norcross, Donnelly, Hancock, Cyrus, etc., - you never know just what you'll find!
Have something you think we need to add to our list? Leave it in the comments and we'll stop by next time we visit!
