Basic Tour Information
The Banff Gondola is located right outside of the town of Banff, located directly next to the Banff Upper Hot Springs. The gondola experience is part of the Pursuit Collection. They have a few different ticket packages - and ticket prices vary each day averaging about $40-$60 Canadian dollars. It’s also good to know that one free child can accommodate each paying adult.
We recommend checking online if you can before hand and booking the cheapest day during your trip! The 8 minute ride takes you to the top of Mount Sulphur, and each gondola fits 4 people max. Once you arrive at the top there are a ton of amenities, and there’s no limit to how long you can stay! To begin, there is an “Above Banff Interpretive Centre” with interactive displays and a theater with a short film that shares more about the development of Canada’s first national park.
There are also a few places to grab a bite to eat - Sky Bistro has great dining with a great atmosphere & incredible views, Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen has a buffet for a more laid back environment, and Castle Mountain Coffee Co. has all the drinks your local coffee shop would. Outside, you can enjoy a walk on the boardwalk to the very top of Sanson’s Peak and the Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station for epic 360 views. They also have a great patio area with an igloo and outdoor heaters so you can enjoy the view even in the winter! If you decide not to take the gondola down (or up) you can always hike the 3.4 mile one way trail to save on the gondola price.

Our Essential Travel Resources :
There are a lot of travel companies out there, but some are better than others. These are our favorite websites and resources to help you plan an incredible trip. For flights, we recommend using WayAway or Hopper to compare the cheapest dates to travel to your destination. Car rentals comparisons are best through Discover Cars - just make sure to bring your international driver's permit with you if you're heading somewhere international! We always use AGODA for hotels. They have an easy-to-use platform where you can compare the best rates. To keep cell phone service if you're traveling internationally, we always use Airalo’s easy to purchase eSIM’s (no installation required). For fun things to do, we always recommend Viator to find the best tours in the area, otherwise Klook also does the trick, especially for tours in Asia. Just in case, Safetywing is the insurance I always use for travel insurance. Lastly, my packing list for your international or domestic travels. Our Thoughts
If we’re being 100% honest we absolutely loved this experience and made an entire day out of our little adventure here along with the Banff Hot Springs. Even though I personally hate gondolas and ski lifts (I can never seem to trust the cable 100%), there was so much to do at the top of the mountain that we had a blast! We ate lunch at the Sky Bistro, hiked the boardwalk to the Cosmic Ray Station, and saw some of the best views in Banff while soaking up the sun on the patio!
Even though some people might find it a little on the pricier end, we would 100% recommend it if you’re looking for something fun to do that’s not too crowded while in Banff. There is another gondola near Lake Louise if you aren’t able to make it down to Banff, however since we haven’t ridden that one yet we’re not able to personally recommend it.
